The ARTS involve communication, interpretation, and understanding of complex symbols just like mathematics and science. Moving the Earth! is an innovative method of presenting Earth Science lessons through the ARTS. The Living Fountain Dance Company is excited to bring new energy and vitality to your students’ learning experience through Moving the Earth!
A degreed professional instructor from our dance company is available to join forces with your 3rd and 4th grade teachers for a one or two week residency. Your teachers can choose which earth science concepts should be covered in the classes. We will work to design a unique program with your time allowances and financial requirements in mind. Our dance instructor will capture the attention of the most active and the most shy child while leading a memorable week of scientific exploration through movement.
Innovative, movement based lessons that teach from a fresh direction.
With the lessons in this program, students will be given a fuller involvement in learning: experiences which will facilitate their ability to identify major cloud types, understand air masses and fronts, and distinguish between several types of storms. They will also do research on the temperature, precipitation, and plant and animal life in particular climatic zones. And this is just the beginning!
The instructors from Living Fountain, a professional arts organization in your area, will interact with your classroom teachers to choose lessons from the following areas; Earth’s Interior, The Lithosphere, The Atmosphere, The Hydrosphere, Weathering, Plate Tectonics, and Volcanoes.
“The kids love it and most importantly, they remember what they’ve learned.”

“Our class has been using these movement activities all the time. They are so good for
teaching science concepts to kids. I had three people in my room watching the kids
become the plates in the earth…the students were attentive and engaged and
spontaneous. The learning was rich. I firmly believe this is the way to teach science at this level.”
Anna Flynn
Fourth Grade Teacher
Ray Bjork Elementary, Helena MT
“The children are excited and really learn! They love the movement and their retention of the material is excellent. Laughter and learning work hand in hand to promote a thirst for life-long knowledge."

In addition to kinesthetic learning through movement, this course utilizes a multimedia approach to capturing children’s attention: recorded music, musical instruments, pictures, samples. It is multi-curricular: writing, critical thinking, mathematics, history, science, physical development, choreography (the children will create their own works of art—through moving!), painting (back drops), research and interpersonal skills.
